AROMATHERAPY is the use of essential oils for their therapeutic properties. An essential oil is a highly odiferous substance found in particular aromatic plants.
The oil is stored as microdroplets in tiny sacs or glands.According to the species, essential oil is obtained from the flowers, leaves, stems, roots, fruits or seeds and sometimes from the whole plant. Using aromatherapy at home for yourself, your family and friends has considerable advantages. For a start, it will be cheaper than going for professional treatment, although the benefits of this should not be dismissed --- there are times when it is essential to consult a professional aromatherapist.
The use of essential oils has a marked effect on the health of the skin. It would be blatantly dishonest for me to claim that aromatherapy can work miracles, reversing the ravages of time. However, I will state positively that essential oils can improve the tone and general condition of the skin and, if used regularly from about the age of 20, the effects of the ageing process can be delayed.
Unlike modern drugs and medicines, the essential oils generally used in aromatherapy rarely have unpleasant side effects. Instead, they help bring about harmony and well-being, peace and tranquility.
In case of anxiety, depression, tension and stress, essential oils are much safer than chemical tranquilliers or stimulants. The oils tend to be normalizing or balancing rather than directly stimulating or sedating. Being of an organic, subtle nature, they act in similarly subtle and complex ways.
